It’s Beach Bunch time and we are back at Sunset Point on Mission Bay. Meet at 5:30 PM. Bring a dish to share (YOU MUST ALSO BRING YOUR OWN SUPPLIES/plates, silverware, cups, etc.), BYOB, and beach chair. We stay for a nice time around the fire, so please bring firewood if possible. RAIN (OR NO ONE SHOWING UP by 6:30 PM) cancels.

Festival of Sail is the LARGEST Tall Ship Festival on the west coast and is hosted at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Friday starts the Tall Ship Parade. Watch the ships sail into San Diego Bay, enjoy cannon fire salutes, and see the ships end their journey at the Maritime Museum's docks. Daily Activities during Festival of Sail include visiting ships and crew, beer garden, live on stage entertainment, Naval re-enactors, vendors, plus a multitude of food choices. We had so much fun in February we are going to have another bowling event. It will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 3:00 PM. Kearny Mesa Bowl will again be giving us a low price per person for shoes and bowling. As usual, please get there at least half an hour early to get your ball and shoes so we can begin at 3:00 PM sharp. Prizes will be presented at dinner - optional dinner after will be arranged.

The Annual Cabrillo Festival will be held at Ballast Point, Naval Base Point Loma located at the south end of Rosecrans Street. (TG 1288 B7). It is a fun activity for the entire family with cultural demonstrations and performances with music and dancing of Native American, Mexico, Portugal and Spain. The festival will have food booths of the traditional food of the four nations. You will see the 16th century Spanish soldiers living history encampment. At approximately 3:00 PM you will see the landing of Cabrillo, his soldiers and a priest as they sail into the bay on the San Salvador (The Californian) and once again claim the land for Spain.

This year's Council Gala will have a "Venice Carnival" theme with masks optional so you won't want to miss it. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Bayside, Harborview Room, Fifth Floor at 4875 N. Harbor Drive. It will include dinner, a no host bar, and dancing. Always a fun time and a chance to mingle with ski club members from all over San Diego. They will be honoring the ski club’s Man and Woman of the Year candidates and the Joe Harris Award Winner. IMAX Movie: Noon
Entrance Fee (for seniors 65 and better): $8.00
If you're 65+ get together with other Torrey Piners for Senior Monday at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park. The entrance fee of only $8.00 includes a lecture, all current exhibits, and an IMAX movie.
THE LECTURES WILL BEGIN AT 10:30 AM and will occur in the Heikoff Dome Theater. The lecture is free with admission. Tickets are required to attend the lecture and can be requested at the Ticket Counter. Lecture space is limited, and lectures often sell out. Visitors are encouraged to stay to enjoy the galleries and special senior discounts in Galileo’s Café and the North Star Science Store. Fleet's doors will open at 9:30 a.m. on the first Monday each month to get Senior Monday started early.

Ireland, Scotland, Oktoberfest Trip - September 1, 2016
The SDCSC is sponsoring an Ireland, Scotland, Octoberfest & Garmisch trip in September of 2016. Each week can be signed up for individually. The cost of the Ireland trip with air is only $2279 September 1-9. The Scotland extension is $1560 and the Octoberfest and Garmish extension is $599. Join us for all three trips totaling 19 days or sign up for a part and tour Europe on your own.
