Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail - Our speaker, Dana Law, will talk about his adventures on the Pacific Crest Trail. This beautiful trail extends from the Mexican to the Canadian border and is 2,650 miles long. At its highest point in the Sierras it reaches 13,200 feet. Dana has hiked most of it already and plans to complete the last 200 miles this August.

Join us at 1:00 PM Sunday for an afternoon of Bocce Ball and socializing at Shelter Island. We will meet at the grassy area across from the Yokohama Friendship Bell near the far end of the island. Novice players are welcome. Bring a chair, drinks and a snack (if you like) and bocce balls if you have a set. Spectators are welcome. RAIN (or no one showing by 1:15 PM) CANCELS.

The bus is rolling again. Join us for this fascinating behind the scenes tour of the Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper operation at one of largest newspapers in the U.S. We will tour the main headquarters, learn the history, tour all of the departments (photography, editing, etc.) and the test kitchen. We will also tour the huge printing presses, robotics, packaging departments in their large warehouse a few blocks away. We will have lunch in the L.A. Times Cafeteria (on your own). After lunch and the L.A. Times tours, we will go by bus to the beautiful Walt Disney Concert Complex. Designed by architect Frank Gehry, Walt Disney Concert Hall is an internationally recognized architectural landmark and one of the most acoustically sophisticated concert halls in the world. There will be a one hour tour of this complex (not the auditorium).
We will have University City and North County pickup locations. This trip will include the three tours, transportation on a large bus with a bathroom, drinks, snacks and lots of fun. This is a real bargain - the L.A. Times Tour as well as the Disney Hall tour. We need 35 to make the trip go, sign up quickly. We will open it to other ski clubs on April 5.

Entrance Fee (for seniors 65 and better): $8.00
If you're 65+ get together with other Torrey Piners for Senior Monday at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park. The entrance fee of only $8.00 includes a lecture, all current exhibits, and an IMAX movie.
THE LECTURES WILL BEGIN AT 10:30 AM and will occur in the Heikoff Dome Theater. The lecture is free with admission. Tickets are required to attend the lecture and can be requested at the Ticket Counter. Lecture space is limited, and lectures often sell out. Visitors are encouraged to stay to enjoy the galleries and special senior discounts in Galileo’s Café and the North Star Science Store. Fleet's doors will open at 9:30 a.m. on the first Monday each month to get Senior Monday started early.

The San Diego Ski Council is planning Bike and Boat trip to Italy in April of 2015. The cost is $1600 for a one week Bike and Boat trip. That does not include air. There is a possibility of a post trip to Cinque Terra. Download the flyer.

Far West Convention in San Diego - 2015
The FWSA Annual Convention, A Salute to San Diego, will be hosted by the San Diego Council of Ski Clubs and will be held in San Diego June 4-7 at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in Mission Valley. For room reservations: 800-772-8527 before 5/15/15.
The Council has been working diligently on events to keep you busy and entertained the entire four days. On Thursday, June 4 there will be an Old town Trolley Tour of San Diego, a seal tour and a sunset dine-in on the USS Midway. On Friday, June 5 there will be a golf tournament, a San Diego Zoo tour, Kayaking at La Jolla Cove, a long and short bike ride, a pool party and a silent auction welcome party (free entrance, drink ticket, dancing to a DJ, and parking). On Saturday, June 6 there will be a travel expo, an awards luncheon and an awards banquet and dance (black tie optional) with guest speakers at workshops in between.

Every year there’s a bit of competition. Convention sponsors will be giving big prizes to the winners of the Safety Award, Ski Heritage Award and the Environmental Award.
